Dear X,

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to quote for your underfloor heating project.  Our system is simple and easy to understand.  Our aim is to use only the highest quality products on the market.  We have made sure that we use the best quality pipe on the market – this is the multilayer pipe made of PE-rt/AL/PE-rt. The pipe is 100 % oxygen diffusion tight, therefore offers total protection against oxygen entering the heating system.  The pipe is approved for 10 bar pressure and 95 degree C temperature – one of the highest settings available.  Your system will never need the above settings, but it indicates the strength of the pipe.

Our room thermostats are digital programmable Danfoss TP5000 Si thermostats (2 core + earth) with set-back.     Our instructions will explain all the technical issues and we will provide you with a hand sketch/design layout of the pipework when the system is ordered. We offer free unlimited technical backup.

If you are using a heat pump, please contact us as you might need extra pipe.  Normally pipe centres are c/c 250 mm for Concrete Floor and c/c 200 mm for Timber Suspended Floor, if heat pump you will need c/c 200 mm for Concrete Floor.

Our estimate is based on the information made available to us. For more technical and product information please visit our website www.underfloorheatingsystems.co.uk . You can also download the full Installation Instructions using TP5000 room thermostats from;

We look forward to hear from you in the near future and in the meantime we wish you all the best with your project.

Yours sincerely,

QUOTATION FOR UNDERFLOOR HEATING SYSTEM

Project: 10 zones, approx. 185 m2

Reference:  100760/09      Date:  05/10/2009

Areas to Be Heated:

Complete Project: Approximate 185 m2 – Please check that floor area is correct

Note that the quote is based on the above floor area(s). If you require less or more area(s) to be heated please get in contact with us, so we can give you a re-quote.  Please also check that the area is correct especially if the drawings were faxed/e-mailed to us and no measurements were provided.

Manifold Position(s): Located centrally (One for each Floor)

Floor Constructions:             Concrete Floor GF and Timber Suspended Floor FF

Installation Price (optional):    “£ 1,200.00”     Installation would be completed by one of our Installation Partners.  No VAT payable on installation.

Installation price includes: clipping the pipe onto insulation, mounting manifold(s), control pack(s) and wiring centre(s) to the wall, filling and testing the system.  It does NOT include any electrical work or connecting to the boiler.  Polyurethane insulation must be laid before our installation team arrives.  If you have a timber suspended floor the joists will need to be notched for the pipe runs and a 25 mm air gap left above insulation. Kitchen units and baths etc must also be clearly marked out before our installers(s) arrive.

Notes:

1)                  The control pack includes a 6 m Grundfos pump and a RWC high flow mixing valve. These components are all necessary for the underfloor heating system to work.  Small flats that use combi boilers will not necessarily need the control pack(s).  If you are using a heat pump, please make sure that the heat pump company specify a pump that can cope with the underfloor heating duty as you do not need our control packs with heat pumps.  Heat pumps should be supplied with a buffer tank (ask your GSHP supplier).

2)                  We have included for stylish modern Danfoss digital programmable individual room controls with set-back (TP5000 Si).  The room thermostats are 2 core + earth.

3)                  Concrete floors normally need 45 degree C water flow temperature while timber suspended floors will need 55 degree C water flow temperature

Boiler Capacity and Specification

Recommended Boiler Capacity for the underfloor heating is 18 kW or 62,000 BTU/hr. This is the maximum heat output that can be achieved from the underfloor heating system.

Maximum heat output for underfloor heating systems is 100 W/m2 for concrete floors and 70 W/m2 for timber suspended floors. For any underfloor heating system to work efficiently the property needs to be built to current building regulations and no rooms should lose more than the above output. Carpet and underlay together should not exceed 2.5 Tog.

Condensing boilers are very efficient with underfloor heating. When using combination boilers you must check with the manufacturer that the boiler can be fitted with a secondary pump.

Underfloor heating systems can be mixed with conventional radiator systems.  Please note that the underfloor heating system needs to be a completely separate system , i.e. the flow and return for the underfloor heating needs to go all the way back to the boiler, normal control is by 2 port valves, like a normal S-Plan system.

Advise on Insulation and Floor Constructions

We recommend a minimum of 50 mm of Polyurethane insulation for the underfloor heating system. This is very high quality insulation and can be used for both concrete and timber suspended floor constructions.  All insulation requirements should comply with current building regulations.

We do not supply insulation. Any builder’s merchant will stock insulation such as Xtratherm or Kingspan.  The quote is based on clipping the pipe direct to the insulation board. We supply the pipe clips. Use a minimum of 65 mm of screed on top of the insulation for concrete floors, for timber suspended floors see website.    No plastic sheets should be laid on top of the pipes.

Moisture Contents in the Screed and Floorboards

The screed must be allowed to dry for a minimum of 4 to 6 weeks before the heating is operated. As the system is used for the first time, the mixing valve must be set to minimum setting to let the moisture in the screed dry out. The temperature should be increased by two degrees every day until the mixing valve is set at 45°C.

Floorboards must have moisture content lower than 7 % before they are installed. We do not recommend floorboards thicker than 25 mm, see website link under technical for more information about floorboards.  Always check with the manufacturers of any floor finish that it will work with underfloor heating.

Heating in WC and Bathrooms

As these areas are very small, extra heat might be needed. Therefore it is standard practice to install towel rails in these areas, combined with the underfloor heating.

Isolating Valves before Mixing Valve(s)

We strongly recommend that the plumber installs ball valves on the flow & return feeding the ufh system. This is in case the pump and mixing valve would need any servicing in the future.
