Underfloor Heating Wiring Centres
Our Heatmiser UH3 underfloor heating wiring centre can control up to eight room thermostats.
On demand from any zone, a 230 V output is provided to switch the relevant underfloor heating loop, underfloor heating pump and two port valve.
A volt free connection is supplied for the boiler, making it compatible with almost all types of boilers.
A simple slide switch makes zone 8 suitable for controlling a radiator zone. When used for controlling radiators, zone 8 does not enable the underfloor heating pump, two port valve and the boiler.
A window is provided on the Heatmiser UH3 underfloor heating wiring centre allowing you to see the power, underfloor heating zone, boiler and valve status without the need to remove the cover.
Underfloor Heating
Our water underfloor heating can also come with Heatmiser TouchScreen room thermostats. The touchscreen room thermostats are available in three plastic finishes, silver, white and brass.
The Heatmiser TouchScreen room thermostats are available in 230 V models, 12 V networking models, air/floor models, 5/2 day & 7 day programming, adjustable switching differential, frost protection, networking facility, keylock function and two zone models.
Our underfloor heating systems can also be used with Wireless room thermostats and wireless receivers. The RC1-W is our flush mounted wireless thermostat receiver. It is capable of controlling two heating zones, using our PRT-W.
The UH-1 is a wireless 230 V 8 zone wiring centre to be used with our underfloor heating water system when wireless room thermostats are used. The wiring centre should be fitted above the underfloor heating manifold. Eight zones can be controlled as well as providing an output for a hot water cylinder.
On demand from any zone, a 230 V output is provided to switch the relevant zone actuators, underfloor heating pump and valve. A volt free connection is supplied for the boiler, making it compatible with almost all types of boilers. Up to six actautors can be connected to each zone. An external aerial is available for use when the UH1-W is being mounted in a metal cupboard or when the wireless signal is restricted.
A software option in the thermostat allows you to configure which zones are underfloor heating and which zones are radiators. Radiator zones will not enable the underfloor heating pump and underfloor heating valve when there is a call for heat.
Underfloor Heating
The Heatmiser PRT-N room thermostats can be used as networking models with water underfloor heating. They should be used with the Heatmiser UH1 wiring centre.
The Heatmiser PRT-E comes with a remote floor sensor. This means that the underfloor heating room thermostat can measure both the air temperature and the floor temperature. This is highly recommended if a sensitive floor finish is used for the underfloor heating system.
All of our underfloor heating programmable room thermostats from Heatmiser are flush mounted, resulting in a depth of only 13 mm.
The Heatmiser PRT room thermostats comes with energy saving optimum start function. Optimum start is an energy saving feature for the underfloor heating system. Optimum start will calculate the amount of heat up time required to ensure your home is warm when you wake up and return home from work. The underfloor heating thermostats will automatically adjust the heat up time throughout the year, saving you energy.
The underfloor heating room temperature can also be set on hold with the hold facility. This is ideal to use for large parties.
The Heatmiser room thermostats also come with a holiday function. This means that the room temperature for the underfloor heating system will drop during the holiday and then revert back when the holiday is finished.
We can also offer a remote control for the room thermostats if required.
All programmed underfloor heating temperatures can be overriden.
Underfloor Heating
All of our underfloor heating controls are Heatmiser. We offer a number of Heatmiser room thermostats for our underfloor heating water systems.
DS1 series dial type room thermostat is mainly used for our single room pack systems. This thermostat has LED indication and is surface mounted. Ie similar like the Danfoss TP5000 Si that we still offer. The Danfoss TP5000 Si room thermostat is a programmable digital room thermostat. We can also offer the single room pack with programmable digital room thermostat.
The DS1 series can also come with LCD indication, dial lock or we can offer the DS-SB thermostat, that is a flush mounted dial thermostat with set back function. All the the dial thermostats are electronics room thermostats, we do not recommend bi-metallic versions.
Our water underfloor heating quotes for standard systems, all include the Heatmiser slimline PRT room thermostats, 230 V model and to be used with our Heatmiser UH3 wiring centre.
We can also offer 12 V Heatmiser network room thermostats for our underfloor heating water systems.
Underfloor Heating
Heat pumps will work fine with radiator systems, but they need to be much larger than normal radiators used with a normal condensing boiler. Therefore it is better and more energy efficient to use underfloor heating with a heat pump.
An underfloor heating system used with a heat pump will also save on the pollution to the environment. It is best to use a concrete floor with underflor heating water and a heat pump as the COP will be higher than using a heat pump and underfloor heating with timber suspended floor.
If normal sand/cement is used then the screed thickness is 65 – 75 mm. If a liquid screed is used, then it will be fine to use 50 mm screed to cover the water underfloor heating pipes.
Please email/post/fax a floor drawing of your underfloor heating project to get a free quote. Our approved underfloor heating installers also offers free site visits.
Underfloor Heating
Underfloor heating water can be used will all normal boilers and most renewable energy sources, such as heat pumps.
All of our underfloor heating controls are now Heatmiser. The room thermostats that are included in our standard quotes are the Heatmiser PRT, ie digital programmable room thermostats. We can still supply the surface mounted Danfoss TP5000 Si room thermostats.
The wiring centre we use is the Heatmiser UH3 wiring centre.
We can also supply;
- Wireless room thermostats
- Touchscreen room thermostats
- Dial type room thermostats
- The room thermostats can be controlled centrally with a Touchpad with use of the Netmonitor, PCLink and orTR2.
The room thermostats can also come in Silver and Brass colours.
Underfloor Heating
Underfloor heating works fine with almost any boiler. Condensing boilers are best to use with underfloor heating water as the efficiency is very good.
Biomass boilers are another heat source for underfloor heating systems. The most common ones are wood burning biomass boilers. Normally the heat from a biomass boiler would be supplied to a thermal store.
With solar heating it is best to use the solar energy to heat the domestic hot water, ie not to be used as heating the underfloor heating system.
Heat pumps are another heat source for underfloor heating systems. It is best to use the heat pump with underfloor heating in a screeded floor as the Coefficient of Performance – COP will be much higher than fitting the water underfloor heating system in a timber suspended floor.
Ground source heat pumps are more efficient than air source heat pumps.
The heat can also be taken from boreholes in the ground or from the water in a lake.
Underfloor Heating
Water underfloor heating systems are self regulating as the floor temperature is very close to the air temperature. If the underfloor heating water system is one large area, then it is fine to have one digital programmable room thermostat controlling the underfloor heating system.
If individual rooms, then it is recommended to have a digital programmable room thermostat in each room.
Flow rates for underfloor heating loops are normally between 1 – 6 litres/minute.
Underfloor heating and radiator systems can be mixed. In many cases underfloor heating is fitted to the ground floor of a property and radiators are fitted the the first floor of the property.
If a heat pump is installed it might not be practical to use radiators. If radiators are used, then they will need to have a larger surface area than normal radiators.
Variable speed pumps can also be used, but at the moment they are a bit too expensive to use in domestic properties. These pumps are A-rated, so in the future they will become more popular.
In lightweight floor constructions, the underfloor heating system will respond as quickly as a radiator system. For example in a timber suspended floor, the response time will be very fast for a water underfloor heating system.
Underfloor Heating
Sometimes the underfloor heating manifolds can be located on the Ground Floor even if they are serving the First Floor. If this is the case it is important that all the air is flushed out from the Ground Floor manifolds and that the loops are pressure tested.
Our room thermostats can be hard wired or wireless room thermostats. Normally, each room should have it’s own room thermostat.
Engineered floorboards should be acclimatised at normal room conditions before they are installed strictly according to the manufacturer’s instructions. We do not recommend floorboards thicker than 25 mm, see website link under technical for more information about floorboards. Always check with the manufacturers of any floor finish that it will work with underfloor heating. Our partner for floorboards is – www.chauncey.co.uk. If the floor finish is sensitive to high temperatures, please use the Heatmiser PRT-E with a floor sensor to protect the floor finish from being damaged.
The multilayer pipe has massive range of approvals from all over the world, including WRAS, KIWA and DVGW. The pipe is approved for 10 bar and 95 degree C.
As the multilayer pipe is of very high quality, the pipe is guaranteed to work for in excess of 50 years with a 10 year company insurance backed guarantee.
Underfloor Heating
In very old properties it is always important to do a heat loss calculation before deciding to use water underfloor heating. Underfloor heating water will produce 100 W/sqm in a screeded floor and 70 W/sqm in a timber suspended floor.
If the property is loosing more heat, then additional heating is required.
Underfloor cooling is not very common in the UK. We do not offer underfloor cooling.
Heat loss calculation should always be done by the project engineer, not the underfloor heating company.
If an underfloor heating system is fitted the air temperature can be 1 to 2 degree C lower than a radiator system as the heat is at the floor level with underfloor heating.
